About Us
The Living Jungle is a family run business dedicated to world of exotics. We have worked in Herpetology since 1999. Our work has involved travelling around Africa studying Pygmy Chameleons and many other reptilian species along with Inverts and birds. We gather informations for the species in the wild and convert it for captive keeping.
Our Handling Policy
All members of staff working on behalf of The Living Jungle at an event are experienced in the handling and caring for the animals.
- Only animals which are healthy and suitable for handling by the public and inexperienced people are chosen for events.
- The members of the public are always supervised by an experienced member of staff from The Living Jungle.
- Before handling any animal the public is provided with a demonstration and instructions on how to handle the animals correctly by a member of staff from The Living Jungle to minimise any distress to the animals. If any member of public does not follow these instructions the animal will be removed immediately from them.
- Only people above a certain age and manor are allowed to handle the animals.
- The public is made aware of any habits that the animals have before handling e.g. scratching and going to the toilet and therefore chose to handle the animals at their own risk.
- Notices are displayed within our exhibition to inform members of the public not to handle animals without permission or supervision from The Living Jungle staff.
- Each animal is only handled for a maximum of an hour at a time, and then given time to rest and relax.
- All animals are provided with food and water during the day.
- All animals are transported in suitable and safe enclosures, to limit injury and escape.
- All members of the public are provided with antibacterial hand wipes once they have handled an animal, this is so they can clean there hands, but also stop any cross contamination between the animals.
